Iran (IMNA) - The spokesperson of Iran's health ministry, Sima Sadat Lari, said that 119 more Iranians have lost their lives as a result of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours bringing the country’s total deaths to 54,693.
5,502 new coronavirus infections were detected over the past 24 hours, of whom 530 have been hospitalized, Sadat Lari said.
There have been nearly 1,200,465 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far in Iran, 951,860 of the cases cured or discharged from the hospitals.
Daily cases have fallen in many countries after some steep rises in October. Several countries including Iran have now invented coronavirus vaccines for use but as populations await their unveiling, cases remain high across many parts of the world.
Lockdowns and other restrictions have been re-imposed in some of the worst-hit regions to help bring numbers down.
According to Worldometers, total cases of COVID-19 worldwide have surpassed 80 million and the global deaths from the virus have also surged at least 1,766,171; however, more than 56,985,098 people have recovered.
