Stepping up convergence upshot of sister cities relations

"Elucidating the role of Isfahan's sister cities in stepping up convergence and developing political and cultural relations has been examined as a research project on behalf of the Cultural, Social and Sports Department at the municipality of Isfahan which is currently being under study at the University of Isfahan," Director of Research, Creativity and New Technologies Department at the municipality of Isfahan said.

Iran (IMNA) - "Social agreements of sister cities are symbolic efforts to reveal the unison between the two cities to enhance relations on different urban dimensions," Ghodrat Eftekhari noted.

"According to sister cities' memoranda of understanding, the mayors or highest elected or appointed officials from two communities undertake to push for technical, civil, cultural, traffic management, scientific and educational cooperation within the framework of certain criteria," He added.

Saying that sister cities agreements are friendly and purposeful relationships aiming to exchange information and experiences, develop cultural, social, economic, urban, technical and political ties between a local urban community and a similar foreign one, Director of Research, Creativity and New Technologies Department at the municipality of Isfahan said, "due to the various political, social, economic and cultural reasons, and enjoying the historical, cultural and civilizational backgrounds, Isfahan was recognized as the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2006 and Iran's cultural capital in 2010."

Isfahan currently holds 13 sister cities across the world, including Xi'an, Florence, Iași, Barcelona, Yerevan, Kuwait, Freiburg, Havana, Lahore, St. Petersburg, Dakar, and Baalbek.
