“Due to the government budget constraints of General Directorate of Sports and Youth, the municipality of Isfahan is ready to take steps in order to promote public sports for better health conditions, dynamism as well as youth mobility in the city”, the mayor of Isfahan, Qodratollah Norouzi said.

Iran (IMNA) - “Sports and municipal areas have a lot in common and from the beginning, in accordance with the goal of urban management, we planned to facilitate sports-related matters and make the field more conductive to public sports. Sport and physical activities enhance mental health and wellbeing. To achieve this aim, cooperation between organizations and agencies such as General Directorate of Sports and Youth, the sport organization affiliated to the municipality, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and the municipality is essential. Concerning functional interaction between different organizations, Isfahan will be introduced as an appropriate pilot in the fields of national sports and health status”, Norouzi added.

Apropos of the Enghelab Stadium located in Azadi Square, the mayor pointed out, “due to the enormous capacities and transportation facilities such as subway lines in Azadi Square, through taking advantage of local capacities, this area would be an ideal place to encourage young people to play sports.”

“Encouraging people to play public sports, drawing Isfahan out of any territorial limit and also paying particular attention to urban diplomacy are some of the organization’s goals. Further, due to the strong cooperation of the mayor of Isfahan with other metropolises in the country, a joint project with Sistan and Baluchistan province, the city of Bent and two hundred villages has been approved and two hundred prepared sports and recreational packages will be provided to these villages,” Mohammad Eidi, the deputy mayor for cultural affairs, said.

“Respecting sister cities, there are many capacities that can promote social vitality. Isfahan as Iran’s cultural hub has signed 14 sister city relationship agreements with different cities around the world,” he said adding that, "Isfahan Municipality is ready to call even two sport teams as the sisters in this regard. So, conditions must be prepared in order to use potentialities of the 132 sister cities in Iran in the field of sports. "
