Isfahan best hub to harness solar energy in Iran

"Having more than 300 sunny days a year, Isfahan is considered as one of the best places to harness solar energy. Installation of 27 solar power plants with nominal capacity of more than 225 kW, Isfahan Municipality is one of the leading metropolises in adoption of solar energy," Isfahan's deputy mayor for urban services said.

Iran (IMNA) - "With about 1300 electricity subscriptions in 15 municipal regions and affiliated organizations, Isfahan Municipality is one of the biggest consumers of electricity in the province that provide services to citizens on about 90000 megawatts (MW) of electricity at a cost of 15 billion toman," Hosein Amiri said.

He added that this amount of energy will be used to provide outdoor lighting for more than 350 urban and local parks, 280 water supply of green spaces, 380 water fountains, 150 urban lighting projects, more than 350 public toilets and 269 administrative buildings in the city.

"Considering the need for policy-making, coherent planning and effective measures to optimize energy consumption, as well as being compatible with the goals of the resistance economy and the Ministry of Energy's instructions in this regard, formulating a new specialized process and providing adequate hardware and software context have been carried out to monitor and clarify energy consumption in this regard," Amiri noted.

‌‌"The consequences of such measures lead to reducing the total cost of electricity consumption in favor of providing urban services to citizens and creating a positive competitive trend between municipal regions in reducing costs and in fact realizing the cheap urban governance with good quality," he continued.

Emphasizing on the development of renewable energy adoption and the expansion of infrastructures for citizens, he said, "Today, the importance of utilizing renewable energy especially solar energy, is one of the most comprehensive and noteworthy subjects for large manufacturers, institutions and serving companies," Isfahan's deputy mayor for urban services said.

He pointed out that Isfahan Municipality has won the National Energy Award in utilizing solar energy.
