Iranian leading research teams to focus on coronavirus disease suppression

Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki urged country's medical universities leading research teams to focus on coronavirus disease suppression in a letter to his deputy for research and technology.

Iran (IMNA) _ Saeed Namaki noted that considering the outbreak of COVID-19 in Iran, research on various aspects of the disease requires the cooperation of research teams at all universities of medical sciences across the country.

He stressed that subjects such as 2019 novel coronavirus genomic characterization, disease prevalence data , age structure of a population effecting disease dynamics, effectiveness of medical interventions, age/sex/race-specific mortality rates , biological nature of the virus and different forms of its mutations, source traceability model for primary infection, date of onset of disease, methods of diagnosis, community-based mental healthcare approaches, political, social and economic upheaval are some important areas to research.

"The results of such research could help our colleagues in coordinating the prevention and control of Novel Coronavirus practices," Namaki added in his letter.

According to the latest statistics, 543 new cases of COVID-19, and 43 deaths have been reported by the state media.
