All hospitals well-prepared to admit new COVID-19 patients

In a letter to the universities of medical sciences, the Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Education announced that hospitals should refuse to admit elective patients till further notice and be well-prepared to receive coronavirus cases.

Iran (IMNA) - Addressing the chancellors of universities and colleges of medical sciences across the country, Qasem Jan-Babaei wrote in a letter:

"Due to the need for infection prevention and control for the care of patients with 2019-nCoV in healthcare settings, it is imperative that by Saturday, all public hospitals including nongovernmental, charity and non-profit private hospital s prevent unnecessary admissionsfor elective patients ,and instead be well-prepared to receive coronavirus patients, " he noted.

The Deputy Minister of Health added, "The Corona Virus Discharge Committee will consist of hospital directors, infectious disease physicians, anesthesiologist, and pulmonary specialists. The committee should also determine optimal bed capacity. Discharging from hospitals will be carried out according to the university's policies and guidelines."

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Iran has risen to 978 and 54 deat.
