Bastam historical complex

Bayazid Bastami historical complex which is inscribed in the list of Iran's national monuments is located in Bastam, Shahrud County, Semnan Province.

Iran (IMNA) – Bayazid Bastami historical complex includes tomb of Bayazid Bastami, Bayazid Bastami's convent, and Friday Mosque of Bastam.

There are some other historical sites outside the complex including Kashaneh Tower known as Ghazaneh that is used to be a fire temple before the Islamic era and some people believe that the Mongol ruler, Ghazan Khan, ordered to build it.

Bastam historical complex holds a unique wealth of cultural heritage. Whereas, the structures in this three-entrance complex date back to Seljuq, Ilkhanid, Timurid, Safavid, and Qajar eras, the Ilkhanid creations stand out due to their wonderful tilework and brick.

Bayazid Bastami's mausoleum is situated in a small metal room on the corner of the courtyard. Parts of a famous sermon from the first Shia Imam, Imam Ali (PBUH) are written on his marble tombstone. In addition, Bayazid monastery is located four meters west of his tomb. The monastery has two small rooms which are connected to each other.

Bayazid Bastami also known as Abu Yazid Bistami was one of the first writers and poets among the famous Iranian mystics. Unfortunately, there are no well-documented references to his works due to his humility and lack of pretense.
