China to facilitate silk import to Iran

Iran (IMNA) - "We are looking to set up a Center for investigating Iran-China areas of relations, and we have considered specialized activities in the field of women and youth in our agenda," The Chairman of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce said.

The head of the Iran's National Center for Carpet called on the Chinese ambassador to facilitate the import of silk from Iran at an appropriate rate for the production of handmade carpets.

"We have the oldest relationship with China regarding handmade carpets," Fereshteh Dastpak said at a meeting of "Investigating the Iran-China Economic Relations" at the Iranian Chamber of Commerce.

"Last month, the largest pictorial carpet of the Silk Road was woven by 180 carpet-weavers in Isfahan and presented to one of China's largest museums, Shaanxi province Art Museum," Dastpak noted.

"Iran is the largest importer of silk, and the biggest trading volume belongs to China; we hope that given the strategic importance of the carpet, the Chinese government will provide Iranian weavers with facilities to import silk," she said.

"The carpet has always been a symbol of Iranian culture and traditions," she said.

"20 percent of handmade carpet exports include silk ones, while 90 percent of silk imports from China consumes for carpet weaving," Dastpak continued.
