Iran's Minister of Communication and Information Technology emphasized the beginning of joint cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the field of space during a joint meeting with Reshad Nabiyev, the director general of Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agency, on the sidelines of International Exhibition Bakutel 2019.

Iran (IMNA) - Expressing the desire of the Islamic Republic of Iran to start a joint cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of space technology, Azari Jahromi said, "There are various purposes on the knowledge of space and satellite construction which are not necessarily economic incentive centered."

"A large part of our future economic success depends on the space technology; so, we need to stabilize our position in this market and decide on whether we want to be a consumer or a producer," he said.

"Within a 20-year space plan in Iran, we have decided not to be the only consumer of this technology. At the moment, ten years have passed and we are trying to reach the goal; therefore, developing our space industry is a strategic necessity for the country".

Emphasizing that Iran welcomes any kind of cooperation in the field of space technology, the country's Minister of Communication and Information Technology said, "The Iranian Space Agency is ready to provide the adequate context for joint cooperation with the Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agency."

Rashad Nabiyev expressed his pleasure with the Islamic Republic's willingness for further cooperation, and welcomed the joint cooperation in this regard.
