 National Day of Asiatic Cheetah

The Asiatic cheetah, known as Persian cheetah, is one of the imperiled cheetah subspecies surviving today only in Iran, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Iran (IMNA) - The Persian cheetah which is the most imperiled cats on Earth survives in protected areas in the eastern-central arid region of Iran, where the human population density is very low.

The Asiatic Cheetah Research Center in Iran is currently hosting two female cheetahs named Iran and Delbar, and a male one called “Koushki”; the center that aims to save the highly-endangered species, has been trying to to provide a professional research site there to improve empirical knowledge about cheetahs, their behaviors in particular.

In recent years, Iranian cheetah conservation groups have directed their efforts to build awareness in Iran about the unfortunate situation of the subspecies of cheetah known as the Asiatic cheetah.

Iran recognizes the National Day of Asiatic Cheetah on August 31.
