Shirez Canyon

Lorestan province in Iran has many tourist attractions with spectacular nature. Shirez canyon is an amazing, unique, and exceptional gorge located in 45 kilometers northeast of Kuhdasht County, in Lorestan province. Actually it is situated at the intersection of three provinces; Lorestan, Kermanshah and Illam.

Iran (IMNA) –The Shirez canyon attracts many tourists due to its amazing springs, flowing rivers, and wild trees. The gorge has the length of five kilometers with a river flows through it and streams to the Seimare River, which is the branch of the Karkheh River. Astonishing walls with the height of 150 to 200 meters has surrounded this place. Amazing shapes have also been created in years due to the erosion of stones and rocks in the site.

There is a natural cave at the end of the canyon with the length of 150 meters, that local people call it "Bridge of God". The level of water inside the cave which comes from a place called "Neyzeh" (Spear) reaches up to your waist. The cave is the remained natural structure from the Stone Age.

A stony pillar is created in the canyon by power of nature during several million years. The height of the pillar, from the cliff to the top, is about 80 meters, with a diameter of 10 meters. Visiting this rocky minaret is a unique experience .

Hearing the sounds of wild birds flying over the gorge makes you forget all around you. The stone and rocks of the canyon with their small and big holes inside are safe and suitable nests for birds. Mountain goats can be seen in this area as well. Colorful fishes are also visible in the clear water of the river passing through the gorge.

As the region is the mountainous one, it has temperate climate; so,the best time to visit Shirez canyon is spring and summer. This beautiful gorge is registered in the list of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites as a geo-park. It is also nationally registered in the list of Iran's natural heritage sites, on December 17, 2014.
