Mehdi Qorbanpour: Varesh Int'l Filmfest a Reason for Being Together

Mehdi Qorbanpour, the Secretary of the 9th Varesh International Film Festival, said this cinematic gathering is a means of gathering together.

Iran (IMNA) - Addressing a press conference, Qorbanpour said during the last six months all media and news agencies helped us carry on.
"Holding a cinematic event in the northern province of Mazandaran is favorable", he said, adding that, “From the beginning we believed that Varesh was a festival for Caspian Sea countries and the Shared Civilization Area.”


Mentioning that this year more than 3,300 films were introduced to the secretariat, Qorbanpour added: “There were two secretariats including the national and the international one which respectively registered 1600 and 1700 films in their portals. We also gained benefit from Farabi Cinema Foundation, Documentary and Experimental Film Center, and Iranian Youth Cinema Society.”
The secretary of festival also talked about the differences of the 9th edition of Varesh Festival with the previous editions: “8 galleries are going to be established in Mazandaran. We are going to host the director of Moscow International Film Festival tomorrow. Perhaps no other event hosts such important guests.

Playing Azerbaijan's Mugham music and music of ethnic groups will be another part of this event. In addition, one of the salons of Varesh cultural cinema complex is named after Davood Rashidi (one of the late masters of Iran cinema).”

He described the 9th Varesh International Film Festival as the cultural heritage of Mazandaran Province. 
Mentioning that more than 50 percent of this Festival’s films will be screened for the first time, Qorbanpour stated: “128 films concern the geography of Mazandaran Province and this is a significant achievement for Varesh Festival.”


This documentary filmmaker also stated: “Several workshops and meetings are going to be held during the festival. They include three international meetings as well as more than seven workshops which increase the capacity of the festival.”
Qorbanpour announced that in addition to screening selected films in Sari, thee workshops will be held in Ramsar by the presence of Kaveh Sajadi Hosseini, Parviz Jahed, and Sergey Dvortsevoy.
