Iran (IMNA) - Mohammad Aqajani said at a press conference that in this method, a new treatment for type-4 malignant tumors has been developed along with standard therapies such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The new method has been developed as a complementary methodology for the first time in the world by researchers from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The first phase of the project has been successfully carried out on animals, and the medical ethics permits for the human phase has been received.

“This approach was first tested about 4 years ago, and we are now moving from this step to the next so that we can use this innovative method for more patients. If the plan is successful, we hope we can use it as a routine treatment along with other standard methods,” noted Aqajani.

Aqajani added that malignant brain tumors have no certain medical treatment in the world today saying that unfortunately, surgical methods, chemotherapy and radiotherapy have not had much effect on patients’ survival.

“Therefore, the new innovative method of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has been selected through a global study. The question was how to transfer live microorganisms that can kill cancer cells to cancerous tumors. The innovative method of the university is that these microorganisms are transmitted through two new techniques into the tumor which makes it more effective for microorganisms to kill cancerous cells,” concluded Aqajani.
