500 million dollars' worth of handicrafts exported last year

"500 million dollars' worth of handicrafts were exported last year," the vice-president and the head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization said.

Iran (IMNA) – "About 250 million dollars out of 500 million dollars, were exported by foreign tourists, and the rest through customs," Ali Asghar Munesian noted. Pointing to the arrival of five million one hundred thousand foreign tourists in Iran last year, he added, "More than 6 million foreign tourists have traveled to Iran during the first 9 months of this year."

"Iran holds the first rank in registering global cities of handicrafts; it indicates the rich culture and art of our country," he continued. Referring to the good potential of Iran in tourism and handicrafts field, he said, "We can strengthen and improve this industry, and create jobs and income with minimum investments as there are great advantages in this sector."

Pointing to 400 active handicraft majors in Iran, Munesian also added, "Cultural Heritage Organization is one of the most successful official bodies to create job opportunities. Tourism industry is able to provide social vitality, and this is one of the social, cultural, and economic advantages of this field."
