Isfahan (IMNA) – "The cultivated land area of saffron in this county is 40 hectares, the production amount per hectare is 8 kilograms, but some farmers succeeded in increasing the amount of saffron harvesting to 20 kilograms per hectare," Heidarali Golmohamamadi said.
"In the past, 10 kilograms saffron was harvested per hectare, but this amount has reached to 20 kilograms per hectare by adding composted cow manure and quicksand," he added. "If saffron is cultivated among the trees, the saffron bulb won't lose it humidity, its stem will be more qualified and bigger than usual," he continued.
Pointing to this fact that saffron harvesting have created jobs in the county, he said, "If special temperature treatment do not happen within three hours after harvesting, 50 percent of its quality, color, and smell will be lost."
"250 kilograms saffron from 30 hectare cultivated land area were harvested last year. Many farmers have cultivated this product during the recent years, since saffron requires low amount of water," he emphasized.
