Hollow space discovered in Surgah historical house in Natanz

“During the recent days, a hollow space which is like a tunnel was found in one of the historical houses in Afushteh district during the restoration operations to launch the ecotourism center. This area has been sealed in order to perform precise archaeological investigations,” Hossein Yazdanmehr, the head of Natanz’s cultural heritage, handicrafts, and tourism organization said.

Isfahan (IMNA) - The ancient house of Surgah in Natanz is one of the few houses of Teimourid era. This house, dating back to 600 years, is among the historical monuments of Afushteh in Natanz which was reconstructed due to its historical value.


“All the reconstruction operations and the interior decorations were done under the supervision of the best architects. The original structure of the building has been preserved during the restoration and reconstruction phases,” Hossein Yazdanmehr said in this regard. “By the end of construction and restoration phases, we will see that the building has turned to be a traditional and beautiful residence with preservation of its originality,” he hoped.
 

Stating that this house was restored last year by the support of Isfahan and Natanz cultural heritage organizations, Yazdanmehr added “a hollow space was found in one of the historical houses in Afushteh district during the restoration operations to launch the ecotourism center. This area has been sealed in order to perform precise archaeological investigations.
 

“The old residents of Afushteh district believe that there was an underground path for coming and going of people in the past,” the head of Natanz cultural heritage, handicrafts, and tourism organization said. The old house of Surgah is registered in the national monument list of Iran on June 31, 2003, with the registration number of 9050.
