The document was signed on the sidelines of the 6th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum by the Head of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Center of Iran Mohammad Beheshti and the Director General of State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, IRNA wrote.
Iran's Cultural Attaché in Russia Reza Maleki quoted Piotrovsky as hailing the Iranian party for its initiative in regulating the cooperation document by his museum and the ICHHTO.
Maleki hoped that the MoU would be an initial but important step towards exchanges, sharing experience, holding exhibitions and conducting research and studies.
Beheshti said that the MoU will be a prelude to extensive scientific cooperation between the two sides.
The MoU aims to prepare necessary conditions for effective cooperation in archeology, history, repair and reconstruction of ancient monuments and historical sites, study historical monuments, train experts in cultural heritage and exchange experience.
Based on the agreement, Iran and Russia will conduct joint project in archeological excavations and research on repair and protection of historical monuments.
