Iran stands 3rd at Intl. Chemistry Olympiad

High school students of Iran received four medals to rank third at the 2017 International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.

The event was participated by 297 students from 76 countries, the Iranian team won three gold and one silver medals and ranked third after the Thai and US teams who ranked first and second.

Amirhossein Behnoush, Parsa Pirouz, Amirabbas Kazeminia won gold medals, and Soroush Baniani received a silver medal.

The closing and award presentation ceremony took place on Friday.

The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual academic competition for high school students.

The first IChO was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1968. The event has been held every year since then, barring 1971.

Iran has won medals in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2017 chemistry Olympiads.
