Iran seeking Halal tourism: Official

Iran is trying to extend Halal certification to different industries, particulary food, tourism and textile, head of Iranian National Standards Organization (INSO) said Wednesday, IRNA reports.

“Iran is among the first countries that have their activities based on Jafari school of jurisprudence and Halal products, said Nayerh Pirouzbakht in the ceremony of signing a memorandum of understanding with Armenia’s Ministry of Trade and Economic Development

Iran is a member of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC), and its efforts have led to defining Halal standards for foodstuffs, according to the official.

“We are considering going beyond Halal food and seeking to expand it to other sectors, including tourism and textile industries,” she added.

“Several slaughterhouses have attained the Halal standard logo,” Pirouzbakht said, expressing hope that the sign would be extended to other sectors.

She pointed to Halal tourism as a topic that should be considered by Armenia government as a destination for many Iranian tourists.

INSO and Armenia’s Ministry of Trade and Economic Development signed an MoU on Halal industry as a measure to boost bilateral ties and increase the trade exchange between the two countries.
