Rouhani

President Hassan Rouhani recalled very suitable opportunities for promoting Tehran-Baku ties in the fields of energy, investment, transportation, trade and tourism in a telephone conversation with his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev on Monday evening.

Noting that Iran welcomes deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan Republic in all fields, the President added that the two governments’ strong resolve alongside their profound commonalities have laid firm cornerstones for enhancing Tehran-Baku all-out relations, as demanded by the two nations.

Noting that there is no obstacle and limitations in the way of promoting political, trade and cultural ties, Rouhani stressed the need for accelerating implementation of the previously made agreements between the two capitals and said that swift implementation of the deals can help step up bilateral and regional cooperation.

Rouhani described prospects of Tehran-Baku relations as very bright, hoping that rapid implementation of the agreements reached earlier between the two countries will pave the way for mutual cooperation, especially in the fields of transit, energy and trade.

Stressing the need for collective efforts to fight against terrorism and extremism and forging unity among Muslim states, the Iranian president said, “We should attempt to eliminate intellectual origins of extremism in the Islamic states.”

Meanwhile, Ilham Aliyev congratulated Rouhani’s re-election in May 19 elections, saying that the two countries relations have had an increasing trend during the era of Azerbaijan's independence but they were totally exceptional over the past four years.

Expressing satisfaction over active participation of Iranian companies in the fields of energy, automaking and pharmaceutical activities, Aliyev said, “We are determined to promote relations with Tehran in all fields and this is the call of the great Iranian and Azerbaijani nations.”

Azerbaijan is keen on boosting cooperation with Iran in field of regional security and fighting violence, extremism and terrorism, Aliyev said.

Both sides also voiced readiness for attending trilateral meetings to help strengthen regional interaction.

Earlier in the day, President Rouhani in a message congratulated Aliyev on the country’s National Day and hoped for further enhancement of cooperation between Tehran and Baku.
