Gharibabadi: Iran Welcomes Diplomacy, Remains Ready to Defend Itself

Iran welcomes all diplomatic processes while remaining fully prepared to defend itself, a senior Iranian Foreign Ministry official said, adding that Tehran is finalizing its response to the US views on an Iranian proposal presented in New York.

Iran (IMNA) –  Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, made the remarks in an interview with Al-Arabi TV, saying Tehran would announce its final position after consultations through mediators.

He stressed that Iran remains open to diplomacy, provided that the issues raised are genuine, adding that the country has consistently welcomed diplomatic engagement and has not failed to pursue it with any party.

Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran’s readiness to defend itself and engage in a fight is no less than its readiness to negotiate.

He said Tehran’s continued participation in negotiations demonstrates its political flexibility and commitment to the diplomatic process. However, he stressed that the United States must return to fulfilling its obligations.

According to the deputy foreign minister, Iran has not violated any of its commitments, while Washington has failed to honor its obligations under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) and must take compensatory measures.

Gharibabadi added that as long as the United States has fully violated its commitments, Iran cannot be expected to demonstrate greater flexibility on the matter.
