Iran (IMNA) – Ali Karimi Magham, a diplomat with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s mission to the United Nations, made the remarks Monday during a session of the UN Third Committee, responding to statements by a Bahraini diplomat.
“Bahrain speaks of human rights while turning a blind eye to what lies behind the events,” he said.
Karimi Magham rejected the portrayal of Bahrain as a victim, saying the country had placed its territory, military bases and airspace at the disposal of the United States for what he described as an illegal war against Iran.
“Bahrain, which placed its territory at the disposal of the United States for an illegal war against its neighbor, can no longer express surprise and astonishment at its consequences,” he said.
Iran’s representative to the Third Committee also stressed that Tehran did not initiate the attack but was itself attacked, describing Iran’s response as an exercise of its inherent right to legitimate defense.
He warned that Iran would respond if the territory of any country in the region were used again to launch an attack against Iran.
“There are only two paths. Either we build security in the region together, or we will endure insecurity together,” the Iranian diplomat told the Bahraini representative.
He further stressed that Bahrain had previously chosen the second path and warned that if it made the same choice again, it should not expect a different result.
