Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a press briefing, Dujarric was asked by an IRNA correspondent about the impact of US sanctions on Iran, particularly their effects on access to medicines and aviation safety.
“What I will tell you is that the Secretary-General has often expressed his concern about the increasing use of unilateral sanctions, which wind up hurting ordinary people wherever they are put in place,” Dujarric said.
His remarks came amid renewed international debate over the humanitarian consequences of unilateral coercive measures against Iran.
A discussion at the UN Human Rights Council has also raised concerns that such measures can disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and restrict access to essential resources, including healthcare.
The United States has imposed sanctions on Iran for decades. Following the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, Washington has expanded its economic pressure on the country.
On August 24, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that US President Donald Trump had ordered an economic exclusion operation targeting Iran and its supporters.
