Baghaei: US propaganda exposes ‘naivety’ behind ‘unlawful war of choice’ against Iran

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says what he described as “crude” US propaganda has exposed the “naivety” behind Washington’s “unlawful war of choice” against the Iranian nation.

Iran (IMNA) - In a post on his X account on Friday, Baghaei referred to what he called “theatrical” US restrictions on the Iranian delegation ahead of next week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Washington has reportedly approved visas for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other members of Iran’s core delegation, while saying they would face travel restrictions as well as bans on purchasing goods and obtaining wholesale club memberships during their stay in the United States.

Baghaei said Washington still appears to assume that nations have neither “memory” nor the “capacity for critical thought.”

He said the United States treats the world as though it would simply accept Washington’s narrative without question.

“It treats the world as if it were Pluribus: a hive in which minds are expected to switch off, eyes lock onto Washington’s lips, and its narrative is swallowed whole,” he added.

Baghaei contrasted the US sanctions imposed on Iran with recent measures targeting Iranian officials, saying Washington has waged a “brutal economic war” deliberately designed to inflict maximum pressure and suffering on ordinary Iranians.

He contrasted this with what he described as the “theatrical” announcement of measures intended to prevent Iranian officials from supposedly shopping at a US wholesale club.

Baghaei said the United States overlooks the impact of sanctions on the livelihoods of ordinary Iranians while highlighting restrictions that are far less significant.

“They look past the sanctioning of an entire nation’s livelihood, then issue solemn statements about the sanctioning of a store membership card,” Baghaei wrote.

“The propaganda is so crude and threadbare that it exposes the naivety of the mindset that launched an unlawful war of choice against the Nation of Iran, and helped deliver the United States to the embarrassing position it occupies today,” he added.

Earlier, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization said the United States, Israel and their allies had revised their strategy toward Iran after failing to achieve their objectives through direct military confrontation.

On August 24, the United States unveiled a new wave of sanctions against Iran under the so-called “Operation Economic Outcast,” threatening secondary penalties against countries or entities that maintain trade ties with Tehran in an attempt to achieve through economic coercion what its military aggression could not.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the new “economic terrorism” campaign and compared it to the D-Day Normandy landings of World War II.

Bessent said the measures target Iran’s financial networks worldwide and warned that no partner is beyond Washington’s reach.
