Iran (IMNA) - In a statement issued late Wednesday, the ministry condemned the Arab League’s attempt to portray Iran’s retaliatory actions against US regional interests as deliberate attacks on regional states.
The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Iran’s “principled policy of good-neighborliness” and stressed the need to strengthen regional convergence and avoid provocative positions.
“The Islamic Republic, while adhering to international law, has taken the necessary defensive measures to safeguard its national security and interests,” the ministry said.
It also stressed that security in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman should be ensured through cooperation among the littoral states and without foreign interference.
Iran said it is ready for dialogue and cooperation with regional countries to build mutual trust, achieve sustainable security and promote economic progress across West Asia.
The ministry also rejected accusations that Iran interferes in the internal affairs of regional states and reaffirmed Iran’s sovereignty over Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb islands in the Persian Gulf.
It described the three islands as integral parts of Iranian territory, rejecting contrary claims and emphasizing that Iran’s sovereignty is based on historical records, the continuous exercise of sovereign jurisdiction and established principles of international law.
“Repetition of unfounded claims in political statements will not alter the geographical, historical or legal realities concerning these islands,” the ministry said.
The Islamic Republic reiterated that security in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman must be ensured through cooperation among littoral states and without interference by foreign powers. It said Iran remains ready to engage in dialogue and cooperation with regional countries to foster mutual trust, establish sustainable security and promote economic progress for all nations in West Asia.
