Iran (IMNA) - The Municipality of Isfahan is moving ahead with plans to modernize and electrify the city’s public transportation fleet, with a program to introduce 3,000 electric and hybrid taxis, purchase 200 electric buses, and convert 2,000 commercial motorcycles from fossil fuels to electric power.
The plans are part of a broader strategy to renew the city’s public transportation system, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and expand the use of clean energy across urban mobility.
Under the program, 3,000 electric and hybrid taxis will be introduced to replace aging vehicles. The municipality also plans to purchase 200 electric buses and convert 2,000 commercial motorcycles currently powered by fossil fuels to electric vehicles.
The electrification measures are being pursued under an agreement involving City Bank, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, and the Municipalities Organization. The initiative is intended to support a wider transition from conventional fossil-fuel-based transportation toward cleaner energy sources.
The projects have also been discussed by the city’s Smart City and Transportation Commission, with implementation expected to draw on financial resources available under Article 12 of the Law on Supporting Energy Consumption Optimization.
Alongside the fleet-electrification program, the municipality is pursuing a range of measures aimed at improving public services and urban infrastructure. These include the launch of a mother-and-child center whose construction began in 2021 and has now been completed. Design modifications were made during construction to improve safety and health standards and optimize the facility for children and mothers.
Given the high cost of equipping the center, the municipality plans to bring the facility into operation gradually, allowing individual floors to open in stages rather than leaving the entire complex unused. The aim is for the center to begin operating around the start of the new school year.
