Iran (IMNA) – Gholamhossein Darzi, the Islamic Republic’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, made the appeal in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the Security Council on Wednesday, following a new wave of US strikes targeting cities in southern Iran. The attacks collectively killed at least 18 people and injured 108 others.
Describing the circumstances of the attack, Darzi said a residential home in Kouhestak, Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, was struck while a wedding celebration was taking place.
“The Islamic Republic strongly condemns this horrific and appalling crime,” he wrote, adding that “the deliberate targeting and killing of civilians, including children, constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental rules of international humanitarian law and amounts to a war crime.”
Darzi said the Kouhestak incident was part of a broader pattern of US and Israeli attacks on civilian sites across Iran.
According to the letter, since February 28, US attacks have repeatedly targeted civilians and critical infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, airports, residential areas, bridges, roads, and railway facilities.
The letter also referred to the February 28 attack on a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan Province. It said more than 168 students, predominantly girls aged seven to 12, along with teachers and school staff, were martyred, while another 110 people were injured.
