As diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions around Ukrainian hit a dead end, Russian armed forces have been deployed in breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, and airstrikes bombarded the country’s capital, Kyiv, early Thursday after President Vladimir Putin said he ordered "a special military operation".
