The Haftshuyeh Grand Mosque, as a cultural heritage has largely been destroyed throughout history, and currently, it demands to be renovated and rescued from oblivion.
Iran (IMNA) - The Haftshuyeh Mosque, as a historical mosque dating back to the Seljukid era, is located in Haftshuye village of Khorasgan in the northeast of Isfahan. According to the pieces of evidence, the foundation of this mosque has been made principally of adobes and a brick façade regarding the exterior.
This ancient mosque has also been considered as a classical Seljuk two-porch mosque that was founded in the fifth century AH. The most remarkable part of the Haftshuyeh Mosque is its altar which is about seven centuries old and contrary to the rest of the mosque, it has remained intact. As a matter of fact, during the Seljuk period, the art of plastering, especially the art of plastering the altar, was brilliantly conceived and impeccably performed.
In the gypsum decorations above the altar, ochre colour and below it, green azure colour has been used. As reported by historical documents and archaeological evidence, it should be noted that Haftshuyeh's gypsum decorations belong to the Il-Kahnid era.
In the strip around the altar, the Throne verse (Ayat al-Kursi) in the Thuluth script, and around the altar, Al-Fatihah Surah in the Kufic script and as well as verses 51 and 52 of Al-Qalam Surah have been plastered.
