Iranian Muslims observe the holy fasting month of Ramadan today in lockdown and indubitably serious restrictions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic; Ramadan is the holiest month for Muslims, in which they fast from sunrise to sunset every day.
Iran (IMNA) - During the holy month, Muslims wake up early (before sunrise) to eat a pre-dawn meal called suhoor, and break their fast after sunset with a meal called iftar; fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. However, the principle is not just the matter of eating or drinking avoidance but to practice religious introspection, self-restraint, charity and reading the Quran.
This year, the holy month of Ramadan has begun differently with strict restrictions and social distancing instructions enforced to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Pursuant to the decision taken by health officials, many of Ramadan's rituals and traditions has been limited.
Mosques in Iran, more than any other time of year, are crowded by prayers during Ramadan ; However, they have been shuttered when fears of the coronavirus emerged. Unfortunately, mosques will remain closed to Muslim prayers and feasting will not be a communal affair in the hope of defeating the Coronavirus.
May God bring countless moments of happiness and blessings in our lives. Happy Blessed Ramadan!
