Shalmash waterfall is one of the amazing waterfalls of Iran, located in West Azerbaijan, 15 kilometers south of Sardasht County. Shalmash is a cluster of three waterfalls near a village with the same name.
Iran (IMNA) – The water falls down from high rocky mountains, so it is called "Shalmash" that means "large rock" in Kurdish language. The most amazing point about this waterfall is that, at first glance it seems to be a single waterfall, but actually there are two other waterfalls hidden inside it. The three cascades area arranged one after the other. In order to see the other two waterfalls, you should pass a long path and enter a deep valley.
Shalmash waterfall is considered as a small branch of the Zab River. Its water finally falls into an amazing valley. There is also a lake under the waterfall that you can reach there by going down several stairs.
This waterfall is about 15 meters high and has a perfect outflow of water. The beautiful green valley and forests around it add to its beauty and has changed the area into a recreational center. The trees which have grown around the waterfall include walnut, oak, and pomegranate trees.
The best time to visit this place is in spring, but the snowy and icy appearance of this waterfall would be noble to see. The combination of river, waterfalls, mountain, forest and valley provides an attractive site for visitors to enjoy.
