Halimeh Jan Lake, also known as the “Bride Lake,” is one of the most picturesque natural attractions in Iran’s northern Gilan Province. Located near Halimeh Jan village in Rudbar County, the lake draws thousands of tourists and nature enthusiasts each year.
Iran (IMNA) —The lake is particularly renowned for a distinctive natural phenomenon that causes the color of its surface to change throughout the day. During the calm morning hours, a layer of naturally occurring algae covers parts of the water, giving the lake a striking green appearance.
As the wind picks up, the algae move aside and the blue surface of the water becomes visible, creating a remarkable transformation in the lake’s appearance. Local residents have likened the phenomenon to a bride lifting her veil, giving rise to the lake’s popular name, the “Bride Lake.”
Spring and summer are considered the best seasons to visit Halimeh Jan Lake, when the surrounding landscape is at its most vibrant and the changing colors of the lake can be observed more clearly.
Surrounded by the lush landscapes of Gilan, Halimeh Jan Lake offers visitors a distinctive combination of natural beauty and a rare visual phenomenon, making it one of the province’s notable destinations for nature tourism.
