Iran, Uzbekistan hold eighth round of political consultations in Tehran

Iran and Uzbekistan held the eighth round of political consultations in Tehran on Monday, with senior officials from both sides stressing the need to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation.

Iran (IMNA) – Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran for the talks.

Araghchi congratulated Uzbekistan on the anniversary of its independence and thanked Tashkent for its principled positions regarding the U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran.

He also expressed appreciation for the participation of a high-ranking Uzbek delegation, led by the parliament speaker, in the funeral rites for the martyred Leader.

The Iranian foreign minister said the two countries enjoy good relations and maintain regular high-level contacts. He referred to his own meeting with his Uzbek counterpart on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation foreign ministers’ meeting in Kyrgyzstan.

Araghchi stressed the need to plan for stronger interaction between the two countries across all areas of mutual interest. He also called for using the existing positive relations between Tehran and Tashkent to expand cooperation between Iran and Central Asian states within multilateral frameworks, with the aim of preserving security and strengthening economic and trade ties.

For his part, Uzbekistan’s deputy foreign minister conveyed the greetings of the Uzbek foreign minister and said Tashkent was ready to develop comprehensive cooperation with Iran in all areas.
