Iran (IMNA) - The remarks came during a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday evening, during which the two leaders discussed the latest regional developments, the need to sustain diplomatic momentum, and their shared commitment to securing durable peace.
Addressing the regional security situation, President Pezeshkian said certain international actors are working to derail ongoing peace efforts. He criticized the Israeli regime and the United States for deviating from previous commitments and undermining regional stability.
He said the current situation requires a firm commitment to diplomatic channels to consolidate ceasefires and prevent the expansion of crises, adding that Iran has consistently acted in good faith and fulfilled its obligations.
Pezeshkian emphasized that any successful and lasting agreement must be based on mutual respect and practical adherence to commitments. He also said Iran's foreign policy decisions and negotiations are conducted within the framework of the country's macro-policies under the guidance and oversight of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
The Iranian president praised Pakistan's constructive diplomatic role, commending the efforts of Prime Minister Sharif and Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir to help reduce tensions and advance peaceful initiatives.
He also highlighted the strategic relationship between Tehran and Islamabad, describing it as being rooted in shared history, religion, and culture.
Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the high-level Pakistani delegation that attended the funeral and commemoration ceremonies of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the participation as a sign of the enduring solidarity between the two nations.
The president also called for faster implementation of existing economic agreements, urging relevant authorities to strengthen cooperation in trade, agriculture, transportation, and industry to fully utilize the two countries' mutual capacities.
For his part, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed the brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran, saying his country's participation in the recent memorial ceremonies was an important duty.
Expressing concern over the possibility of renewed regional escalation, Sharif stressed the need for restraint and continued political efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire.
He said Pakistan remains ready to continue supporting diplomatic efforts and de-escalation initiatives, including regional efforts led by Qatar. Sharif also underscored Iran's important role in regional affairs and expressed confidence that Tehran's leadership would address current challenges with wisdom and prudence.
The two sides concluded the conversation by reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close political consultations and pursuing the implementation of bilateral economic and trade agreements.
