Qatar, Pakistan Announce Progress in Iran-US Talks at Switzerland Summit

Qatar and Pakistan have announced significant progress in ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States following the conclusion of the first round of high-level talks at the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland.

Iran (IMNA) - In a joint statement issued early Monday, the two countries said a “positive and constructive atmosphere” prevailed during the first day of the summit, with encouraging progress achieved, including the establishment of a mechanism to continue technical discussions, Anadolu Agency reported.

Among the key outcomes of the talks was the creation of a mechanism for continued technical discussions and the formation of a high-level committee tasked with overseeing the political dimensions of the mediation process.

According to the statement, the committee will receive regular reports from lead negotiators and supervise specialized working groups focusing on the Iranian nuclear program, sanctions-related issues, and dispute resolution mechanisms aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed last week.

The statement added that the high-level committee agreed on a roadmap designed to reach a final agreement within 60 days, paving the way for the immediate launch of a new round of technical talks.

Additionally, the parties established a communication channel for the period specified in paragraph five of the memorandum of understanding to prevent incidents and misunderstandings and to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
