Iran (IMNA) - In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry denounced what it described as a large-scale US attack on Iran carried out the previous night, stressing that the US government would be accountable for the “very dangerous consequences” resulting from its warmongering.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the crimes of the terrorist regime of the United States in its massive attack on Iran last night and emphasizes that the responsibility for the very dangerous consequences resulting from this warmongering lies with the ruling body of the United States,” the statement said.
The ministry stated that the recent US attacks constituted a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and fundamental principles of international law concerning respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It further argued that the attacks had effectively rendered the April 8, 2026 ceasefire meaningless.
The statement also criticized the continued use of the territory and facilities of certain regional countries by the US military to prepare and conduct operations against Iran, saying such actions place those countries alongside the aggressors. Iran reiterated that all countries in the region have a legal and moral obligation to prevent the US military from using their territory, facilities, and resources to carry out attacks against Iran.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized Iran’s determination to neutralize the sources of attacks against the country, describing such measures as part of its inherent right to self-defense in response to what it called US military aggression and the actions of its accomplices.
The statement further highlighted what it described as the shared responsibility of all United Nations member states to oppose violations of the UN Charter by the United States and the Zionist regime. It warned that silence and inaction in the face of such actions would lead to greater instability and insecurity around the world.
Iran also called on the United Nations Security Council and its members to fulfill their responsibilities for maintaining international peace and security, while stressing the legal and moral responsibility of the UN secretary-general to clearly address the situation.
According to the statement, issuing general or ambiguous remarks despite what it described as clear evidence of aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime cannot be considered a responsible response and would only encourage further violations of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
