Iran Urges BRICS to Shape Fairer Global Energy Security Framework

Iran's ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, has called on BRICS member states to play a leading role in establishing a fairer and more stable global energy order, saying that energy security is increasingly being determined by countries of the Global South.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a gathering on energy cooperation and security within the BRICS framework, Jalali said that geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, global market volatility, and growing demand in emerging economies have made energy security a cornerstone of global stability and development.

He noted that energy security extends beyond access to resources and includes the security of supply, demand, investment, technology, infrastructure, and finance. Given the extensive capacities of BRICS member states, Jalali said the bloc carries shared responsibilities and must contribute to building a more just, stable, and inclusive global energy security system.

The ambassador stressed that energy should be used to support development, prosperity, and production rather than serve as a tool of political pressure. He called for the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor, the expansion of transport and logistics infrastructure, increased port cooperation, and stronger interconnections among the energy networks of BRICS countries.

According to Jalali, such measures can improve the security and sustainability of energy trade at both regional and global levels.

He also stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not attacked any country and has consistently sought peace, stability, and security worldwide. As a BRICS member and a major energy producer, Iran will continue to play a constructive and effective role in promoting energy justice and strengthening global energy security, he said.
