Intervention under any pretext in US-Israeli aggression will lead to grave consequences

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to vessels belonging to the aggressor parties and their supporters, warned that any foreign intervention under any pretext in the US and Israeli regime’s aggression against Iran would have dangerous consequences.

Iran (IMNA) - In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Pezeshkian and European Council President António Costa exchanged views on the latest developments and consequences of the imposed war launched by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, as well as the ongoing situation in the region.

During the call, Pezeshkian criticized the negative approach and biased positions of the European Union and some European countries toward the blatant aggression by the criminal US and the Israeli regime against Iran.

He added that the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran is not only an unprecedented crime against the Iranian people, but also a gross violation of the rule of law and an assault on all the principles and rules that the European Union claims to uphold.

The president said Tehran had entered talks with Washington in good faith and with a constructive approach, but was attacked illegally for the second time in the middle of negotiations.

This, he said, proves that the country has no belief in diplomacy and is merely seeking to dictate its own ambitions.

Emphasizing Iran’s inherent right to self-defense, Pezeshkian said, “We respect the sovereignty of neighboring countries and have no intention of attacking them. However, unfortunately, US bases are stationed in these countries and attacks are launched against us from their territory, and these countries have failed to fulfill their international responsibility to prevent the use of their land for attacks against Iran.”

The president said the current situation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is the result of the hostile and aggressive actions of the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

He added that the way to normalize the situation is to stop their aggressive attacks. “We have never sought tension or war at any point, and we have the will to bring this war to an end in accordance with its requirements, especially the necessary guarantees to prevent the recurrence of aggression.”

Pezeshkian further stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is closed to ships and vessels belonging to the aggressor parties and their supporters, warning that any foreign intervention under any pretext in this war and the current situation in the region would have dangerous consequences.

He also advised European countries to shape their policies and positions based on international law and in line with constructive and professional engagement, rather than adopting a destructive approach toward Iran.

For his part, European Council President António Costa said that war and tension in the region must be stopped, expressing concern over the war’s negative political and economic consequences around the world. He added that European countries have never supported this aggression against Iran and consider it contrary to international laws and norms.

The European Council president also called for the settlement of disputes through negotiations and peaceful solutions.
