Iran (IMNA) - Araghchi arrived in Beirut on Thursday afternoon to meet with senior Lebanese officials. Speaking upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, he said the meetings scheduled for today and tomorrow will primarily focus on regional developments.
He noted that the region is currently facing serious challenges and threats, stressing that these are particularly linked to the Israeli regime and are unprecedented in scale and intensity. According to Araghchi, over the past two years seven countries in the region, including Iran and Lebanon, have been targeted by Israeli attacks. He also pointed out that parts of Lebanese territory remain under Israeli occupation and that the ceasefire in place over the past year has been repeatedly violated.
The Iranian foreign minister reiterated that the main objective of his visit is to conduct close consultations with senior Lebanese officials regarding these challenges and threats. He described Lebanon as a key country in the region with an important role in maintaining regional peace and stability, adding that Iran is holding consultations with all regional countries and that the timing of his visit to Lebanon is particularly sensitive and important.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, heading a political and economic delegation, left Tehran for Beirut on Thursday morning. Earlier, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Wednesday afternoon, he emphasized that Iran is pursuing the expansion of relations with Lebanon, noting that economic cooperation will be a key component of the trip.
