Leader Says Enemy Responsible for Rial Volatility, Calls for Firm Action Against Rioters

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said foreign enemies are responsible for the country’s economic difficulties by engineering fluctuations and depreciation of the rial, and urged security forces to deal decisively with foreign-backed rioters.

Iran (IMNA) - The remarks were made during a meeting with the families of martyrs of the 12-day war against the United States-backed Israeli regime, held on Father’s Day, which coincided with the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS) and the martyrdom anniversary of former IRGC Quds Force commander Lt. General Qasem Soleimani. The meeting took place on Saturday at Imam Khomeini Hussainyeh in central Tehran.

“We will not retreat in the face of the enemy. With reliance on God Almighty and confidence in the support of the people, we will, with divine assistance, bring the enemy to his knees,” the Leader said, after attributing the rial’s depreciation and instability to hostile foreign actors.

Referring to recent protests by traders and shopkeepers in Tehran over currency volatility, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic respects the right to protest but will not tolerate riots.

“The uncontrolled increase in foreign currency prices [against the rial] is unnatural and the result of enemy actions, and it must be stopped,” he said, adding, “We talk to the protester, but there is no point in talking to the rioter.”

He stated that groups of mercenaries hired by the enemy had infiltrated among shopkeepers and traders, chanting anti-Islam, anti-Iran, and anti-Islamic Republic slogans.

Ayatollah Khamenei called on security forces to intensify measures against what he described as the enemy’s mercenaries who seek to undermine national security through unrest.

He also noted that the president and senior government officials are making serious efforts to address the country’s economic challenges.
