Iran (IMNA) - He made the remarks in a message to the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union, which was read on Sunday by Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, at the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg.
The high-level meeting was attended by the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the prime minister of Armenia, marking an important moment in the bloc’s development.
President Pezeshkian stressed that Iran is working to establish a successful model of regional convergence rooted in shared cultural and historical commonalities. He said the future belongs to nations that advance through cooperation and mutual trust.
Highlighting key areas for strategic collaboration, the president pointed to trade and transport facilitation, energy security and technological development, financial infrastructure, and people-to-people ties.
Pezeshkian underlined the central role of Eurasia in Iran’s diplomacy, noting that while Iran is an active member of organizations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and ECO, the EAEU holds a distinct place in Tehran’s foreign policy.
He described the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement with the EAEU in May as the start of a productive presence in this crucial geographic area, calling it the most significant achievement of the year. According to him, the agreement provides a unique platform for national economies and traders to grow.
The president said the real trade potential between Iran and the five EAEU member states far exceeds current levels, adding that Tehran is firmly committed to achieving a major leap in trade volumes in the coming years.
Pezeshkian concluded by reaffirming that Iran’s participation in the EAEU at the highest level reflects its strong determination to expand relations with all five members and to turn this historic opportunity into a turning point for collective growth.
