Iran Reaffirms Commitment to Strategic Partnership Treaty with Russia

President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s determination to implement the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation, which officially came into force in early October.

Iran (IMNA) – Speaking during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the International Forum on Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan on Friday, Pezeshkian emphasized Tehran’s firm commitment to fully carrying out all signed agreements. He also called on Russia to accelerate and complete its share of the implementation process.

The Iranian president pointed to ongoing bilateral cooperation, including joint work on power plants, transportation, and corridor development. He noted that Iran would complete the necessary preparations for full implementation of corridor-related projects by the end of the year, urging Moscow to expedite its commitments.

Pezeshkian highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening both the North–South and East–West corridors, stressing that progress on these routes was advancing and would gain further momentum with Putin’s support.

He also praised existing agricultural cooperation between the two countries as a successful model that could be expanded to additional sectors. Pezeshkian underscored the need for closer collaboration within regional and international bodies such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS in order to counter unilateralism.

For his part, President Putin welcomed the expanding bilateral relationship, calling the signing of the Iranian–Russian Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership a turning point and a highly significant step in the two nations’ ties.

Putin noted that trade between Iran and Russia had grown by 13% last year and by 8% in the first nine months of the current year. He also confirmed continued joint efforts in power plant construction, infrastructure projects, and gas and electricity transfer.

The Russian president further reaffirmed Moscow’s support for Iran in international organizations, particularly at the United Nations, and said this position would remain unchanged. He also extended warm greetings to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
