Iran (IMNA) - Figures released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) and cited by IRIB News on Monday show that Iran exported $4.627 billion worth of steel and iron products between late March and October 22, marking a 27% year-on-year increase.
Export volumes also saw a significant boost. Iran shipped 23.683 million metric tons (mt) of steel and iron during the April–October period, up 43% compared to the same interval last year, the report said.
ISPA data further indicated that Iran’s steel production reached nearly 15 million mt over the seven-month span, reflecting 3.2% growth. Output in September alone amounted to 2.3 million mt.
Exports of finished steel products totaled 2.566 million mt valued at $1.195 billion during the reporting period. This represents a 14% rise in volume and a 7% increase in value from the corresponding months of 2024.
Shipments of mild (semi-finished) steel climbed 40% year on year to 4.552 million mt in the seven months to late October. Revenue from these exports reached $1.877 billion, up 23% from the previous year. Mild steel includes three categories of steel ingots—billet, bloom, and slab—which serve as feedstock for finished steel products.
The report also highlighted strong growth in raw iron exports. Iran exported 16.566 million mt of raw iron, including sponge iron, pellets, and concentrates, during April–October—an increase of more than 50% year on year. Revenues from raw iron shipments hit $1.554 billion, nearly 55% higher than the same period last year.
