Iran (IMNA) - Al-Araji, leading a high-level Iraqi security delegation to Iran, met with Araghchi on Monday evening. During the meeting, the two officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, as well as the ongoing situation in Gaza and Lebanon. Both emphasized their concern over Israel’s repeated violations of the Gaza ceasefire and stressed the urgent need for global action to halt the occupying regime’s alleged crimes while ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
Araghchi highlighted the strong relations between Tehran and Baghdad across all sectors and underlined the importance of continued consultations and strengthened security cooperation, particularly in border management. Al-Araji briefed Araghchi on the progress in implementing the Iran-Iraq security agreement and reaffirmed Iraq’s full commitment to upholding it. He also praised the unity and resilience of the Iranian people in the face of foreign aggression, assuring that Iraq would never allow its territory to be used to threaten Iran’s sovereignty or security.
In a separate development, Araghchi held a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss regional developments, including the situations in Gaza and Yemen. Both sides emphasized the need for collective efforts by Muslim countries to address Israel’s actions and expansionist policies.
Since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza on October 7, 2023, over 68,100 Palestinians have been killed and approximately 170,200 injured. A fragile ceasefire, brokered between Israel and Hamas on October 10, has been repeatedly violated, with Gaza authorities reporting nearly 100 Palestinians killed and roughly 230 wounded in Israeli strikes since the truce came into effect.
