Iran, Allies Present Draft Resolution at IAEA to Protect Nuclear Facilities

Iran, together with China, Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Belarus, has submitted a draft resolution to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) calling for a ban on all attacks or threats against nuclear sites and facilities under IAEA safeguards.

Iran (IMNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Tuesday that the draft resolution, titled “Prohibition of all forms of attack and threats of attack against nuclear sites and facilities under IAEA safeguards,” aims to defend the integrity of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Baghaei emphasized that the resolution reaffirms the inalienable right of all countries to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and their entitlement to effective guarantees against any attack or threat of attack. He underlined that all states must refrain from attacking or threatening peaceful nuclear facilities in other countries.

He concluded by calling on the international community to act decisively to prevent the normalization of lawlessness regarding military threats to safeguarded nuclear programs.

Iran has consistently condemned what it describes as Israeli and US-backed attacks on its nuclear sites, arguing these undermine global security and the credibility of the IAEA. Supported by countries opposing Western unilateralism, Tehran stresses that peaceful nuclear activities are a sovereign right under the NPT. This resolution is part of Iran’s ongoing efforts to urge the IAEA and its member states to take a firm stand against military threats to nuclear programs under international monitoring.
