Iran (IMNA) - Esmaeil Baghaei, speaking in a radio interview, stressed the strategic importance of the South Caucasus region for Iran and neighboring powers, particularly Russia, highlighting the area's political, economic, and geopolitical weight. He emphasized that Iran is observing developments “with open eyes,” pledging neither to underestimate nor disregard any issue in the region.
Baghaei cautioned that foreign interference and the presence of external military actors would only heighten geopolitical complexities without offering constructive outcomes. Addressing the recent peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, he pointed to Article 12, which prohibits foreign military forces from being stationed along their shared border.
“We are highly sensitive about that matter, as Armenia itself is aware of the consequences of foreign forces’ presence,” he said.
Additionally, the spokesperson affirmed Iran's readiness to strengthen ties with regional countries and support initiatives that promote stability and security in the South Caucasus.
