Trump Says Ukraine Agreement Now Depends on Zelensky Following Russia-US Summit in Alaska

The prospect of resolving the Ukraine crisis now rests on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, according to US President Donald Trump, following the Russia-US summit held in Alaska.

Iran (IMNA) – Speaking to Fox News before departing for Washington, Trump emphasized, "Now, it's really up to President Zelensky to get it done," while also calling on European nations to become involved in the process.

The summit took place on August 15 at a military base in Alaska, where President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Trump engaged in talks lasting more than three hours. Prior to the main meeting, the two leaders held a private conversation in a car en route to the venue.

The closed-door negotiations included Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, alongside US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Following the talks, President Putin told the media the discussions had focused on resolving the Ukraine conflict. He called for a reset in bilateral relations and a return to cooperation, extending an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow.

Trump acknowledged progress in the negotiation process but noted that full agreement on all issues had not yet been reached.
