Iran (IMNA) - Responding to earlier suggestions by former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif about forming a regional consortium for uranium enrichment, Baghaei noted that “the idea of a consortium is not new,” having been raised in previous negotiations but never entering practical stages.
Baghaei underlined the importance of enrichment in Iran as an inseparable right under the NPT, affirming that any plan securing this would be open for consideration.
Regarding future talks with the United States, the spokesman reiterated that Iran’s demand for compensation from the US would be a non-negotiable issue, citing Washington’s support for Israeli attacks on Iran in June and its own military strikes on Iranian soil at the end of that conflict. He said any future talks would “certainly differ from those before June 13,” the date Tel Aviv launched its offensive.
Baghaei criticized those dismissing this stance as legally uninformed and referenced international law, including the International Court of Justice rulings against US interventions in Nicaragua and actions against Iranian oil platforms.
On new US sanctions targeting Iranian individuals and shipping firms, Baghaei condemned the measures as “absolutely contrary to international law” and disruptive to global trade, while affirming that Iran has learned to withstand unlawful and oppressive sanctions.
