Iranian President Pezeshkian Receives Official Welcome in Baku, Highlights Deepening Ties with Azerbaijan

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Baku on Monday, where he was officially welcomed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Zagulba Palace.

Iran (IMNA) - The visit, conducted at the invitation of President Aliyev, marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two neighboring countries, which share deep historical and cultural ties.

President Pezeshkian is accompanied by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on this official trip. Speaking before his departure, Pezeshkian stated, “The purpose of my trip was an official invitation from a neighboring country, and I am also interested in this trip.” He emphasized the longstanding relationship between Iran and Azerbaijan, describing it as “historical, cultural and deep,” and noted the suitable grounds in Azerbaijan for enhancing bilateral relations.

During his visit, the Iranian president underscored the importance of promoting commercial, scientific, and economic collaboration between the two countries. He also highlighted plans to discuss the development of transport corridors that could facilitate traffic and trade between Iran and Azerbaijan.

Iran and Azerbaijan Pledge to Deepen Bilateral Ties During Pezeshkian’s Official Visit to Baku

During an official ceremony in Baku, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, “We will try to make the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan become much better and deeper.” He emphasized that Iran can foster stronger relations with its neighboring and regional countries than with European nations. Pezeshkian highlighted the longstanding friendship and mutual support between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, noting, “We have many common points in the areas of religion, culture, and politics”.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, for his part, expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations, saying, “I believe that this bilateral meeting will develop relations between the two countries. We have had a very good exchange of views on various issues. Both countries should work to expand and develop relations.” Aliyev also noted that important documents had been signed during the visit, reflecting the commitment of both nations to strengthening their partnership. He added, “The North-South Corridor is of great importance to the countries participating in this project. The Republic of Azerbaijan will provide all appropriate conditions for the strengthening and exploitation of the North-South Corridor”.

Both leaders underscored the vast potential for cooperation in diverse fields, including economy, trade, culture, tourism, and politics, and expressed hope that the visit would open new opportunities for collaboration and accelerate the deepening of ties between their countries.
