Iran Declares Unprecedented Peak in 500 Years of Relations with Russia

Iran has officially announced that its current level of cooperation with Russia has reached the highest point in five centuries of bilateral relations, underscoring the deepening of strategic, economic, and political ties between the two countries.

Iran (IMNA) - Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who recently traveled to Russia to deliver a letter from Iran’s Supreme Leader to President Vladimir Putin, shared details of his visit on X, posting a video of his meeting with the Russian president. “Fruitful discussions in Russia, where I traveled to deliver a letter by Iran's Supreme Leader to President Putin,” Araghchi wrote.

He emphasized the significance of the partnership at this “critical juncture,” stating, “Iran and Russia are strategic partners and will continue to be so in pursuit of shared interests & for the good of the two nations and the world.” The foreign minister further declared, “We are at the apex of collaboration with Russia in the history of our 500-year-old relationship.”

Diplomatic relations between Iran and Russia date back to 1521, with both countries experiencing periods of cooperation and rivalry throughout history. In recent years, especially following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war and the imposition of Western sanctions, the relationship has deepened significantly, marked by enhanced political, military, and economic collaboration.
